Journeyman printing
The only way Journeyman could survive was by taking on printing jobs for other organisations – what was known as ‘print farming’ in the trade. It started with printing posters for the Musicians’ Union and progressed to art catalogues for some key London galleries. This meant working to very tight schedules to ensure catalogues were delivered before the opening of exhibitions and absorbing all costs prior to payment. This was possible because of the trust gained by Journeyman from printers and suppliers, and its success meeting deadlines. However, balancing the demands of book publishing and the needs of galleries became more difficult as time went by, so printing for others came to an end in 1986.
