Nicholas Mukomberanwa
Nicholas Mukomberanwa was born in Bukera District in 1940. He started carving at Serima Mission under Father Groeber, initially in wood. He came to Harare in 1961 and joined the police force, leaving to devote all his time to sculpture. He joined the Workshop School of the National Gallery in 1961. He was also a part-time member of the sculpture community at Vukutu. He was awarded the status of invited artist in the 1986 Nedlaw Exhibition at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, for outstanding contribution to Zimbabwean sculpture, and was the overall winner in the annual Nedlaw Baringa exhibition in the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in 1989. Mukomberanwa has exhibited widely in the USA, Britain, France, Germany, Australia, Mozambique, Zambia and Botswana. His work is in public and private collections worldwide. He lives and works in Ruwa.
