Freddy Macha

Freddy formed the Sayari Cultural Troupe in Tanzania and used guitar, drums and traditional instruments to interpret his work.

‘Freedom’ composed by Kaz Kasozi (piano) and performed with Freddy Macha (guitar), Andre Mathurin (bass guitar) and Trevor Antonio (percussion).

Freddy won the BBC Poetry Prize in 1981 and the Commonwealth short story runners-up award in 1996. He has published two collections of Swahili stories (Twen’zetu Ulaya, 1984, and Mpe Maneno Yake, 2006) and released Constipation, a music, poetry and prose album, in 2000.
