Walter Crane

‘A Garland for May Day’ (1895) is a drawing by Walter Crane (1845-1915) from Cartoons for the Cause: Designs and Verses for the Socialist and Labour Movement, 1886-1896, printed and published by the Twentieth Century Press at 37a Clerkenwell Green, London, EC1, subsequently the home of Marx Memorial Library.

Cartoons for the Cause was republished by Journeyman and Marx Memorial Library in 1976 in a limited edition with a foreword by John Betjeman. ‘A Garland for May Day’ was later hand-coloured by Journeyman and printed as a folded card (opposite).

‘Labour’s May Day’, from the same publication, was reprinted in 1976 as a postcard by Journeyman and the Marx Memorial Library.
