Jack Hastings: Murals and Frescoes

The only illustrated catalogue of known murals and frescoes painted by Jack Hastings (1901-1990). Those at Monterey (California), Clerkenwell Green (London) and Buscot Park (Oxfordshire) have survived and are still accessible, but all the others have been lost or destroyed.

A short introduction tells of his life with Cristina Casati and meeting Diego Rivera in 1931 to work with him on Allegory of California in San Francisco and his fresco at the Institute of Arts in Detroit. Rivera’s The Making of a Fresco, Showing the Building of a City at the San Francisco Art Institute depicts Jack Hastings and Clifford Wight preparing the wall (below top).
