Norbert Shamuyarira

Norbert Shamuyarira was born in 1962 in the Chinhoyi District. He began to sculpt in 1979 as a result of an encounter with Bernard Takawira, himself an established sculptor. For four years Shamuyarira learnt from and worked with Takawira at the latter’s home in Chitungwiza. Since 1984, however, he has worked on his own and is rapidly establishing himself as a leading figure. His work has been shown in several National Gallery exhibitions as well as a number of group exhibitions in Zimbabwe, USA, Mozambique, Australia, Italy, Ireland and West Germany.
